This week, the children have been undertaking a variety of activities based on the story book 'Beware of the Bears'. We have also had a visit from Techniquest which focused on the importance of recycling.
Activity One: Personal and Social Education The children have been talking about what they enjoy doing in school and giving reasons why this activity is their favourite
Activity Two: Language,Literacy and Communication The children have been using a Bubble Map, which is linked to thinking skills. The children were encouraged to think of words to describe their favourite characters in the story.
Activity Three: Language, Literacy and Communication The children have been experimenting with mark making. We have been practising drawing straight lines, top to bottom and curvy lines, left to right. The children have also enjoyed practising writing their name in shaving foam.
Activity Four: Mathematical Development We have been designing patterns for the Big Bad Wolf's new curtains. The children have been learning about repeating patterns and simple 2D shapes- square, circle, triangle and rectangle.
Activity Five: ICT The children have had great fun making pictures on the computers. Using a variety of art pacakges, the children have been practising their mouse control to create pictures of their own bears. We used the following websites:
Activity Six: Knowledge and Understanding of the World The children have taken part in a treasure hunt around the school. They had to follow a series of clues to find the bear's hidden treasure
The children have also been participating in a variety of other activities provided through the enhanced areas within the Unit. This includes sand play, water play, role play, dressing up, ICT, construction, investigating, music, collage, cutting and sticking, painting, playdough and clay, number, drawing, mark making, jigsaws, reading, enjoying books and listening to music. The children now have constant access to the outdoors environment and many activities take place outside. The children have access to obstacle courses, play house, slide and play frame, bikes and trikes.
